I'm Wasted By The Way She Moves

Once again I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Zehara. This time, we added fire to the mix. It was so much fun! I, of course, am not usually found playing with snakes or fire, but I'm totally enthralled by them when Zehara's in control. Maybe I'm being hypnotized by the belly dancing. I also had a lot of fun playing around with the post-processing of the images and I'm really happy with the way they came out. Take a look!

In other news, I saw Steely Dan in concert last night. Totally awesome. They didn't play as many of their greatest hits as I would have wanted, but they sounded amazing regardless. Really. They haven't lost it. I've seen a lot of 60s and 70s singers perform and there are very few who still sound just as good. I can now count Steely Dan on the short list. Know who's not on the short list? Bob Dylan. So that's my nutshell review - if you like Steely Dan, catch them in concert. They still sing "Hey, Nineteen" like they did decades ago.

Another nutshell review. Today I watched a new documentary on the director Roman Polanski. It was fascinating. It focused mainly on his late 1970s arraignment for rape and his subsequent fleeing of the country, but the movie also took into consideration his past. This is a guy who survived the Holocaust as a child when his parents were sent to concentration camps - his mother died, his father barely survived. Then, as an adult, his 8-month-pregnant wife is a victim of the horrible Manson Family massacre. Then in the late 70s, he has to deal with the rape accusation. The movie does not take sides, but it deals instead with the facts and how, regardless of whether he was guilty or not, there was a mishandling of justice by the judge. What's crazy is that a lot of the major players participated - the A.D.A., the Defense Attorney, the victim's attorney, and the victim herself. If you're interested in movies, Polanski, or Hollywood history, this is a good documentary to check out!

Last but not least, we're finally starting to move into our new place. In fact, I think tonight we might even sleep in the bedroom and not the living room. Maybe tomorrow night we'll have a bureau to put our clothes in. I can hope, right?

Hips Don't Lie

My hips, of course, would tell you how much I love to eat. That's a conversation for another time. These hips are the hips of Zehara, a tejedora belly dancer and snake charmer. I first photographed her last winter/spring and we finally managed to get outside for a shoot. Of course, after weeks of uncharacteristically warm October weather, we got a 43 degree morning. Chilly! That also meant her snake could only be photographed for a little while because it needed to be warm. And yes, you can see Zehara's breath in some of these!

Okay, so just for a preview of what's coming up, I've got two family sessions, a sr. portrait, and headshots. I also just got back from New York City. I met up with a bunch of other photographers to go on an adventure around Brooklyn. It was all organized by the amazing wedding photographer [b]ecker. We traipsed around DUMBO, right near the Brooklyn Bridge and then took a ride down to Coney Island. I've got a lot of editing to do, but I'm going to be wicked efficient. Plus, I've got the Red Sox to keep me company for at least 3 1/2 more innings. We'll see what happens in the 9th.

Hello, my friend, hello

Don't hate me for quoting Neil Diamond. There's a lot of pressure in coming up with something witty to start off a blog. I wanted a place where I could stay in touch with people, and my photography. With this blog, I'm able to update my portfolio and share my photos without having to harass the patient guy on the other side of the country in charge of my official website. I've never blogged before and am not ashamed to say I had my good friend Dorie assist me in setting up this account, which ended up being the smart thing to do when I couldn't figure out how to log back in to it. Oops. There wasn't even wine involved. This will be the first time I actually post photos. Here goes nothing...

These are some of the greatest guys I know.

This is a photo of Zehara, a belly dancer, and her snake Manasa. I took photos of them recently and all the photos look great. It was such a wonderful experience. I absolutely became fascinated with photographing the snake - he looked good in all his photos! Just look at that tongue!

This is Krista Baroni, a singer/songwriter, who as you can see is extremely beautiful and photogenic. Taking pictures of her is always a fun experience and we both enjoy experimenting with the shoot, whether it's with make-up, location, or weather!

I think this has been a successful first blog. I had a shoot yesterday that I need to work on and then I can post some of my favorite photos from that! Thanks for reading.
