I'm Still Standing

Okay, this is the week of Elton John's birthday (March 25). I love Elton John. He just happens to be one of my all-time favorite singers. Even in 7th grade, when we had to create a bar graph of the class' favorite singers and I was the only one who loved him, one lonely little graph paper square, and classmates mocked me (so ahead of my time), my love endured. I have just now decided that I am going to try to post something every day this week and every title will be from an Elton John song. In his honor. Because I love Elton John. I inadvertently began with the last post. Go ahead, mock me. I can take it.

Blue Eyes Laughing in the Sun

I have been so lame with my posting lately and I apologize sincerely and profusely! I'm editing lots of photos as we speak, so I'll be sure to post more soon! In the meantime, the above photo of my very good friend Jill will have to hold you over until then. She looks so gorgeous I could just scream.

This weekend was extremely busy. Friday night, Doug and I went to a show titled, "The Odditorium". It was awesome! Something totally different and affordable for us to do on a weekend night. The show was full of sideshow circus acts - amazing musicians, burlesque troupes, belly dancers, The Human Floor, jugglers, and even a woman with some MAD hula-hoop skills. It was all organized (and emceed) by my client Zehara. You've seen photos of her on my blog before - she belly dances with snakes and swallows fire! Doug and I had so much fun! I took a few photos from our seats so I might have to post one or two on here.

On Saturday, I had an all-day boudoir marathon. Lots of ladies getting photos taken for their husbands, husbands-to-be, boyfriends, and for themselves! It's a great way to pamper yourself, really. It was an amazing and exhausting day. My clients are so wonderful and brave and fun! I'm going to design some albums with these photos, so if there's anyone out there interested in boudoir photos, drop me an email!

I leave for Los Angeles in just under a month. I am so excited to go and visit my old stomping grounds. My good friends are getting married and I am going to be a guest (albeit, with a camera). I've also set up some shoots while I'm out there, but am definitely interested in setting up some more. I'll be there from April 21st to April 28th - let me know!

Fly Like An Eagle

Many moons ago, I interned in Boston radio. I met some of the coolest people in the world during my time there. Twelve years later, we are still friends. My boss Dave was amazing. I know it sounds silly but he really took care of me. Frankly, Dave is not that much older than me - sort of like a big brother. I did a lot of growing up during my two years at the station and he was there for a lot of it. Sure, one could say we were adults back then, but now we're really adults and Dave is asking for my help (and for yours). Dave's father was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) a few years ago and lost the battle this past August. This July, Dave will be biking the Tri-State Trek - a 270 mile ride - for the 3rd time. He does the ride for his father, and for everyone else struggling for their lives. He does the ride to spread awareness and to raise money in the fight against this horrible disease. He does the ride because he's a good man and he takes care of his people. Please help my friend Dave in his quest to end ALS. By clicking on that link, you can donate directly to his team. Any little bit will help. I Sat Beside You And Became Myself

These two always look so much in love! It's awesome. I'm going through my photos from the past year, trying to choose some for my new website(s) and it's so hard to choose. Not only do I love so many of the photos, but I have emotional attachments to my subjects. I want to include ALL of them. Sadly, that would be a very laborious website, so I need to narrow things down. Ah, such a lovely way to spend Saturday morning!

The Story of My Life

I haven't posted in a week or so, which is unlike me. I've been designing client albums, which is exciting and has definitely kept me busy. I wanted to post these photos of me and Doug that were taken by Rachel of mergeweddings.com. In the fall, we arranged a little portrait exchange where I took photos of her and her husband and she photographed me and Doug. I never posted any of the ones she took and today felt like the day to do it.





I love these two photos. I get so wrapped up in taking photos of other people that I don't have a lot of photos of the two of us together anymore. These are a real gift!

Rita Hayworth Gave Good Face

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working with Iryna. Not only does she love photography, but she's also a great model. I absolutely love the close-up shots I got. I felt like I was shooting a Cover Girl ad or something. Totally flawless. There's something about the intimacy of a close-up that tugs at me - I want to see into a person's eyes. These top two shots are definitely two of my favorites from the whole day.





I thought I would post this one, too. It's not a close-up, but I love the emotion in it. Iryna gave us so much to work with - lots of outfits, expressions, poses. We really had a lot of fun.

And Then We'll Take It Higher

Last weekend, the same day as the Oscars, I attended Part 2 of the Get it Off! Workshop. We worked with three models and practiced different lighting set-ups, at times trying to create specific looks and other times, just experimenting and having fun. I spent the day learning a ton and definitely getting more comfortable with using my flash off-camera, but also hanging out with some really cool people (that applies to the models, the photographers, and our fearless workshop leaders, James Federico and Doug Levy).
