Boston Children's Photography: Young Child With Dreams

Holiday photos take up a big chunk of my autumn and I hardly ever get to post the majority of the families I photograph. That changes today! I had the pleasure of photographing these two lovely kids last year and was thrilled when I got to photograph them again. We headed out to Larz Anderson Park for our session and it did not disappoint! Considering what a strange fall season we had this year, we lucked out with some awesome weather and blowing leaves! It’s so gorgeous out there. I think those bottom two photos should be huge wall canvases, too! They sort of remind me of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet and the blustery day.

We Stick Together, We Can See It Through

Yes, I know. I used to be a good blogger. This summer has been insane, of course. Tonight Doug told me that he'd like to help me blog. I knew that wasn't a good sign - clearly this has gone on too long. For me, though, this post was worth the wait!

The other day, I had the pleasure of hanging out with L & J at their house. I could have photographed them all day! Rarely do I encounter a 2 yr old who is so cooperative! L is older and a bit more introspective than J is (she's the ham), but you can also tell he's protective of her. They are close enough in age that they play together and seem to genuinely enjoy each other's company. It was awesome. Here are some of my favorites from the day:









After playing inside for a little while, we made a move outside. Drawing on the sidewalk with chalk is a BIG hit in this household! YOU might not be able to tell, but there are a lot of chalk Buzz Lightyears on this sidewalk!








And sometimes I love a good serious photo. Especially when the kids are this cute!

It's Raining Men

I love going to my clients' houses and photographing their families right after they bring their new little ones home. It's always such an exciting time! This family had just welcomed their third son.



It's always fun to see how siblings react to their new baby brothers/sisters. Sort of an "I won't sit with you, but maybe I'll poke you in the head to see what your story is" kind of philosophy.


Eyes!


There was absolutely no rain on this gorgeous day but the boys love playing under the golf umbrella. They carried it around and made forts with it. Who am I to say it can't be in the photo?


Definitely two of my favorites from the day! Quiet time with mommy. I couldn't choose just one, so you get to see both of them.

Where Troubles Melt Like Lemon Drops

Tonight I had the privilege of seeing The Wizard of Oz on the big screen. To celebrate the film's 70th anniversary, theaters all over the country showed the movie today for one screening. I am a huge proponent of seeing classic movies on the big screen - that's the way they were meant to be seen. It's a pretty cool experience, even if you know the ending. I tend to go to the movies when no one else is there, but to see a movie like this in a crowd is fun. People of all ages were there to disappear into the land of Oz. It's a pretty great way to travel somewhere over the rainbow.

And since I don't want to post without photos, I am finally getting around to posting this family shoot. I can't even tell you how awesome this shoot went. You never know what to expect with toddlers and newborns and this family was amazing! We had such a wonderful afternoon, even though the little guy slept through a lot of it. There were a lot of wonderful photos to choose from and I had trouble narrowing it down, so bear with me!

I am trying so hard to get through all my editing, so if you're waiting for photos, bear with me! I am going to be off the grid this weekend for an awesome wedding celebration and I am so excited to be a part of it. I don't think I'll have any cell reception or internet access while I'm gone, which will be a little different for me. We'll see. Heck, I'll barely have any electricity! It could be tough since I need the TV to fall asleep. That might all have to change. I'll try to post more soon! In the meantime, happy fall!

At This Moment, You Mean Everything

Last week, I photographed Lily for her first birthday. Even though her older brother decidedly did not want his photo taken, he couldn't seem to resist the background.




We also had an itty bitty birthday session with Lily. I will post those photos later. For now, I am posting these for mom so she has a little something to look at while she's waiting for the rest!

This weekend I am in Vermont (I'm writing this post from my very own chalet) for a very special wedding that I am so excited to photograph! Thanks to the relatively relaxed schedule, maybe I'll even get a chance to post something while I'm here.

She Looks At Me So Fearlessly

We've had a sudden explosion of newborns recently! It's all so very exciting. I photographed this family right before I left for my trip to Los Angeles. I have been photographing Connor, the big brother, since he was just a baby. Now he's a big boy who likes to help look after his new baby sister. Isn't she the cutest? For some reason, I decided to post all of these in black and white today. Enjoy!









I'm just working through all my shoots these days, trying to keep up with posting. My wedding season officially began this weekend - so awesome. Beautiful ceremony, couple, and love story. Hopefully I'll be sharing those photos soon. Happy Monday everyone!

You Gotta Know When To Hold 'Em

There are so many things to blog from my trip to Los Angeles, but I'll start simple. While I was there, I visited with my cousin's family. Back when I moved to Los Angeles, my cousin and his wife had no kids. By the time I moved, they had two kids. Now, they have three. After all the taking care of me they did on the west coast, the least I could do was snap a few photos of their gorgeous, sun-kissed boys! I can't even tell you how well-behaved these kids are (despite a little poker habit they seem to be picking up). I know my east coast family will be thrilled to see this photo, too.



Since the last time I blogged, I had some crazy adventures that I can't wait to share with you. Really. I've come up with blog post titles and everything. I just need to edit first. Suffice to say, my trips back to L.A. I think will happen a lot more frequently! Maybe I'm on my way to being bicoastal. Too bad I have to take a plane to get there.

You Better Watch Out

Besides an engagement shoot coming up, I am done with sessions in 2008! It's been such an amazing year - I have learned so much and am so excited about the direction my business is taking. Christmas is a great way for me to wrap up the year because I start getting all the photo cards in the mail. I love when clients send me their cards. When you photograph a family, you never know which photo they will choose to use, so it's a great surprise to see them all. I've got them taped up around a doorway in my house and they make great decorations.

Buenos Aires is right around the corner, which I guess is how I'll really end 2008. I'm photographing a wedding on December 27th, which I know is going to be fabulous. Doug and I are trying to finish up Christmas stuff so we can focus on packing and preparing. I am going to try to blog from the road - I think the hotel has WiFi, so I should be okay. I'm sure I'll shoot a million and one photos. I'm SOOO excited!

Quick Movie Reviews: I saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona last night and enjoyed it. Good acting, good storyline, great characters. The characters are really multi-faceted, which lends itself to the nuances of the story. The movie got a fair amount of Golden Globe nominations and won't be around in theaters much longer so it was on the top of my list. Penelope Cruz was great. Since Golden Globes separate Comedies and Dramas, it will be interesting to see if the movie receives any Oscar recognition. There's a fair amount of competition. Overall, I recommend it, either in the theater or at home.

Jump For My Love!

These little girls are a riot. I love watching them interact with each other - what one does, the others follow. We got some adorable photos immediately and then we decided to play around a little. Here they are getting ready for their big jump:

Can you believe Thanksgiving is the day after tomorrow? I can't! Doug and I leave for Buenos Aires in exactly one month! I'm already planning out my outfits in my head (it will be summer down there). I've been pondering buying a laptop for the trip (and, of course, it will be helpful in general), but I haven't given in quite yet. There's just so much going on! I'm still in the thick of holiday photos, so that's exciting. I'm working on updating my website and my business. I'm really excited for 2009!

You Wanna Be Starting Something

In March of 2007, I photographed this family for the first time. Harrison was just six months old and photographing him was one of my first assignments as an independent photographer. I had recently left the studio I had been working for to strike out on my own and I totally lucked out meeting Harrison's family. Harrison's mom passed the word along to her friends and they've kept me employed for close to two years now. That's how it all started. Now they have a new little baby - Lily. She is six months old, so it was time for her supermodel debut. She's off to a great start!

For some reason, baby clothes designers still feel the need to put lots of tiny buttons on the backs of clothes. Go figure.


Look at this gorgeous face! I love it when babies look straight into the camera and for some reason, really seem to be connecting. You can tell there's something going on behind those beautiful eyes.


And, of course, here's the big brother. He's changed so much over the past year and a half. For one thing, he's a little blondie now! He's also running around and talking in sentences. He's certainly challenging Lily to keep up with him.

Have You Any Wool?

I was recently introduced to a new location - Brooksby Farm in Peabody. They had lots of farm animals and some animals that shouldn't be on a farm (like emus). There was a huge orchard, tractors, bales of hay, and pretty much anything a photographer could have fun with. Including a large wooden crate that I managed to whack my head on (of course). I photographed this family last year and we had fun getting together again this year. I know this isn't your typical holiday card photo, but I think it's beautiful. J.T. and Evvie are twins and they had just climbed up this little hill and we were trying to direct them to hold hands and come down again. Directing small children does not generally turn out how you plan it, which is the beauty of the whole thing. This is one of those in-between moments.

You're A Star In the Face of the Sky

Every year, October, November, and December are filled up with fun family shoots in preparation for the holiday season. I am having so much fun photographing all of the kids, some of whom I haven't seen since last fall. A year makes a big difference. It's awesome. Now, these kids I try to see fairly often. Abbie and Sophie have been appearing on my blog since I started it nearly two years ago. Abbie is my only official godchild (although I like to think I have a handful of fairy godchildren). They are the daughters of my cousin Adrienne and her husband Michael (commonly referred to as Honey). You couldn't meet two nicer people. Adrienne has always been like my older sister. She was a great moral compass (most of the time) and she was always someone I could talk to when I needed someone to listen. When she got married, I lucked out and got Honey in the deal. They have these two gorgeous daughters who always make me laugh and I love to photograph them!

When I worked at the studio, stacking heads was a definite no-no. Abbie and Sophie did this themselves and I love the movement. It makes the photo more dynamic than just stacked heads.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing these three musketeers again. They are such funny kids! We were able to shoot in a neighbor's backyard so we could get the pond in the background for some of the photos, which was awesome. There are millions of hidden treasures, like this pond, all over Massachusetts alone. I love getting the opportunity to discover them. We also made use of the fall foliage, which in New England, you can't pass up.

See, I told you I'd be posting more! Despite the failing economy, I'm feeling pretty good about life right now. Election day is right around the corner and I am SOOO excited! I registered to vote as soon as I turned 18 and I really enjoy being part of the process. This year, however, is particularly historical. If you are over 18 and are registered to vote, DO IT! I honestly feel that if you don't take advantage of your privilege to vote this year, you should be ashamed. No matter who wins, we're making history. How could you not want to be a part of that?
