Amy & George, Bryant Park: I Promise From The Heart

Amy and George got married this past summer in New York City. Although not my first Manhattan-based couple, it was my first Manhattan wedding, and the reception was be at the legendary Bryant Park (clearly I watch too much Project Runway). I met Amy and George through Katie & Ryan, so I already knew how much fun they could be at a wedding! They did not disappoint! There were so many wonderful little details to their day. They included all of their nieces and nephews in the wedding, so they were surrounded by adorable flower girls and ring bearers (as well as one beautiful junior bridesmaid). The favors were bottles of hot sauce with a label that said "You're Hot, Call Me," which is apparently the note Amy left on George's car when they first met. How great is that story?



Amy's gorgeous dress is from Vera Wang. Swoon. The shoes were Manolo Blahnik, so I was in fashion heaven!

Since we were in NYC, Allana & I had to hop in a cab to get down to our portrait location. We met up with the bride and groom and the rest of their wedding party at the Flatiron Building and used the sidewalk space out front for our portraits. We were even able to see the Empire State Building in some of our shots! It was so very romantically New York City!






The reception was held at the Bryant Park Grill which was amazing! The cocktail hour was out on the roof and the reception was in the main dining area.




The cake was made by the sugar Sweet sunshine Bakery in the Bowery.


And the dancing! Oh was there ever dancing! Bud Maltin Metropolitan Music provided the night's soundtrack and Amy and George's wedding guests danced all night. George's nieces and nephews even put together a performance of a Justin Bieber song. It doesn't get any cuter than that! And there's always lots of singing into spoons. One of these days I'll have to find out how that started, but for now I'm just happy with all of the awesome photos it gets me!






Amy and George, thank you so much for including us in your wedding day! We had so much fun! And I know that honeymoon was well deserved! I always love a good reason to get down to New York City - adventure abounds down there!

And Now I Know I'll Never, Ever Say Goodbye

Katie and Ryan's New York City engagement session was almost completely rained out. The weather this summer has been quite the challenge to work around, and worth through Luckily, these two were willing to take a chance outdoors with me. I definitely think we ended up with awesome photos! There's something so New York about them; but not just New York - like, vintage New York. 1970s New York. Maybe I just think that because we ended up at the Plaza, like in "The Way We Were." So romantic!

We almost didn't make it uptown to the Plaza because of how bad the weather was, but I'm so glad we did! We just waited for a quick break in the rain, hopped in a cab, and Katie and Ryan worked it out. I mean, they were fierce. Even after I made them take a few more photos in the rain, they still smiled.




Photographing these two was such a great experience! I can't wait for their wedding next spring. I just know it's going to be super-stylish and I know there will be champagne! Cheers, Katie & Ryan!

All We Are Saying

I actually took this photo in the fall of 2007 and have been meaning to do something with it since then. I love the colors, the green of the building, the blue of the sky. In the midst of all the business stuff I have been doing, it's nice to have a reminder of what I love to do. I'm not so good at the business stuff...

Uptown Girl

One of the great things about being a photographer is that you get access to all sorts of cool places that you normally wouldn't. Well, when I was in New York City last weekend, I photographed the lovely Liz. She's not really an Uptown Girl (she lives downtown) but she is being featured in the Colby magazine and needed a photo. Her original plan was to enlist an intern to snap the shots, but I lured her away. She had no idea what she was getting into!





Liz works at the Public Theater in New York City. It's the amazing theater that produces the Shakespeare in the Park every spring/summer. If you're ever in NYC, it would be worth checking out a play there!

These Little Town Blues Are Melting Away

While I was in New York City, I shot some headshots. I also ate kangaroo and foie gras, but that's a story for another time. Melissa is the only woman in Slightly Known People but she is also an awesome personal trainer. Hopefully when the weather is better, we'll get to do some work shots for her. The day we had to work with was pretty rainy but we still managed to work outside - we just needed to be quick!




The Oscars are this Sunday. Thank goodness the strike was settled in time for the ceremony! I don't know what I would have done if I had gone to see all those movies and they didn't have a show. I have only two movies left to see: "The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford" and "American Gangster." Both are now on DVD, so that's my big plan for today. Not necessarily to watch both of them, but to rent them. It's all so very exciting!

These Vagabond Shoes Are Longing To Stray

I braved the torrential downpours this week and drove myself down to New York City for the pleasure of shooting Slightly Known People. I've mentioned them in my blog before and I will most likely mention them again. The members of this sketch comedy group are all totally charismatic and hilarious. Every once in a while they bless the Boston area with a performance so keep your eyes open. Or, if you're in the NYC area, definitely check them out!

[b]rooklyn's Got A Winning Team

(Team of photographers, that is!)

Monday night, after finishing an afternoon shoot, I hopped in my (mostly) reliable Honda and headed down to New York City. My purpose? Besides getting to see my good friends Dan & Melissa (you might remember them from the aquarium wedding), I was going to have lunch with [b]ecker, a crazy amazing photographer based out of Southern California. A ton of photographers were in town for the PhotoPlus Expo and [b]ecker had a free afternoon. He generously offered, via his blog, to meet up with other area photographers and talk shop and walk around and take pictures. It sounded like an amazing experience to me, and NYC isn't that far away. I wasn't sure what to expect of the whole thing, except that, at the very least, I'd get to explore part of Brooklyn and photograph it. Well, I got a lot more out of it than that. I met some really cool photographers, ate some delicious pizza, and learned a lot from some people who are more seasoned than I am. It doesn't get much better than that. Here are some of the fruits of our expedition.

As an added bonus to the Brooklyn trip, we all got Shootsacs, or Shootsac covers. This is Steve DePino. He's not only a photographer and suspected international spy, but also a male model.


Since Tuesday, I've been able to see photographs on some of the other photographers' blogs; it's really interesting to see how different we all shoot. Sure, there are some similar photos, but at the same time, there's tons of variety. For instance, most people shot the word "Brooklyn;" I chose the word "Throw." Go figure.

Steve , again. This mural was awesome. It's so much fun to shoot in urban settings because there's always so much to see. You can create art from anything.




This is Melissa Bitter, photographer and blogger extraordinaire! She got to model while [b]ecker taught us a little bit about lighting. I love the way the lens dips into the frame.


Look at the way the light hits this star. You can even glimpse a mini-rainbow in the sky. This was taken on Coney Island. I lived in NYC from 1999-2000 and this was my first time on Coney Island. I was so excited to have the chance to get down there, even if it was just to walk around. Granted, we did make a stop for Nathan's hot dogs on the boardwalk.


Another lesson on using light. This time we had a faux engagement shoot. Can you believe these two had only met a few hours earlier? Melissa modeled again and photographer Dan Speicher was her lucky man.

As much as I love the colors on these murals, I also love the creepy carousel horse in the window.


[b]ecker was a great sport all day, answering all our questions and traipsing around the city with a bunch of his blog-stalkers. To top it off, it was his birthday!

It was well worth the drive down, and thanks to all the other participating photographers, for their patience, generosity, and for supplying me with enough inspiration to last a long time!
