At This Moment, You Mean Everything

Last week, I photographed Lily for her first birthday. Even though her older brother decidedly did not want his photo taken, he couldn't seem to resist the background.

We also had an itty bitty birthday session with Lily. I will post those photos later. For now, I am posting these for mom so she has a little something to look at while she's waiting for the rest!

This weekend I am in Vermont (I'm writing this post from my very own chalet) for a very special wedding that I am so excited to photograph! Thanks to the relatively relaxed schedule, maybe I'll even get a chance to post something while I'm here.

We're Gonna Have a Good Time

Meet my new best friend Lucy. She needed absolutely no direction for this shoot, if you can imagine that!

Lucy turns one this month and to celebrate, she had her own "itty bitty Birthday Session." These are sessions I'm offering for babies turning one! They come with everything you see here (except the baby - you provide the baby) and more (think customized cake from the itty bitty bake shop and a super-cute album). If you're interested in learning more about these very special photo shoots, drop me an email! In the meantime, I know Lucy's family will love these photos. Can I tell you that the whole time we were shooting, we were all dying laughing? I think Lucy's parents had as much fun on the shoot as Lucy did, minus the sugar high (and subsequent drop). I should have had someone photographing them! I am so excited about these sessions and hope to do a ton this year! So, if you know someone with a baby about to turn one, you know where to send them! I just realized how many exclamation points I used in this paragraph. A lot. But that's just how excited I am!

How Old Are You Now?

This past weekend, we celebrated Sophie's birthday! Guess how old she is now...

And here's the birthday girl waiting for her guests...

Happy 3rd birthday, Miss Sophie!

I Wanna Be on Top!

America's Next Top Model that is! This past weekend, I participated in an America's Next Top Model birthday party. It was pretty much my dream come true. And these girls were psyched to be models. If you watch the show, you know that every week, the contestants participate in challenges. These 12 year olds had two challenges: 1) To make wedding dresses out of toilet paper, and 2) To design a clothing company and design two outfits using fabric. It was awesome. And I was their esteemed "noted fashion photographer." Here is a silly photo of the birthday girl in one of her outfits:

I can't help loving America's Next Top Model; I have been a faithful viewer since it started. I'd say it was my guilty pleasure, except, frankly, I don't feel guilty about it. So, of course I found it relatively easy to transition to VH-1's The Shot, about aspiring fashion photographers. There has only been one episode so far but it's fascinating watching the photographers work it - how they shoot, how they treat their models, their different styles. I'm excited to see how things play out.

I've been super busy editing this past week which is why I haven't posted in a few days. I should have more up in the next couple of days. And next week I take off on a little road trip/vacation/photo expedition, which I am REALLY looking forward to. If you haven't driven cross-country yet, I highly recommend it!

Will You Still Need Me, Will You Still Feed Me

The photos in this post celebrate my grandmother's 89th birthday! Pretty amazing. All six of her children were there, a bunch of her grandchildren, and even one great-grandchild! I love taking photos of my grandmother. She has this fascinating face. My father took tons of photos when I was little and we have so many wonderful photos of my grandmother. I love looking at them as an adult and I want to make sure I continue the tradition.

Having so much of the family together was a great way to honor my grandmother.

Today I am shooting a wedding, which should be really exciting, despite the ominous skies. I had two other shoots this week that I need to finish editing so I can post some photos. Stay tuned!

Making Friends For the World to See

I thought a lyric from Elton John (or more specifically, Bernie Taupin) would be appropriate for this post. I recently celebrated a milestone birthday and this post is about showing off one of my birthday gifts. I have some very creative friends, and most days I consider myself creative. However, when I compare myself to Kristi, she consistently blows me out of the water. She gives Martha Stewart a real run for her money, and I'm not exaggerating. Her talent never ceases to amaze me. A few months ago, my mother threatened to get rid of a bunch of my stuff from the attic. She's been doing this since I graduated college many years ago, but for some reason, I believed her this time. One of the bags she was going to throw out was full of my old concert t-shirts. My first concert was The Pointer Sisters - they played on Boston Common as part of the "Concert on the Common" series. The year was 1987. I went to concerts every year after that. Soon I was caught up in the seedy world of concert t-shirts- I wanted them all! And, much to my present day chagrin, I wanted them XL. I have no idea why. The thought of my mother throwing my shirts in the trash broke my heart. In a panic, I sent up my Bat Signal to my real-life arts & crafts superhero, and she answered the call. What you see here is the result of her blood, sweat, and tears (I've seen them, too, but didn't buy a t-shirt - i do have a photo with the band, though), and years and years of me buying unnecessarily large t-shirts.

Look how big the quilt is! Perfect to snuggle under when it gets chilly (or when the A/C is on high). Some of the concerts highlighted on the quilt are: Elton John, Elton John & Billy Joel, The Who, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Neil Diamond, Bette Midler... Yes, this is the music I liked. I was a strange teenager. Anyway, I thought I would send props out to Kristi for creating such a beautiful, tangible, portable treasure from all my memories. Awesome, huh?

They Say It's Your Birthday...

Little Sophie turned two this month! I took her first official portrait when she was only about twelve days old. I can't believe how much she's grown up! At the same time, I can't believe she's only been around for two years... Funny how your mind can play time tricks on you like that. To celebrate the occasion, her parents threw a fun and food-filled party in her honor. In between munchies, I managed to capture some of the day.

This is Sophie's big sister, Abbie.
