Your Dreams Will Open the Door

Last Sunday, I participated in a workshop put on by ShootStyle, a group of very cool New England photographers. This workshop was led by Maine photographer Michelle Turner and focused on posing couples. Each participant had a chance to take the lead. We were up in Ogunquit, ME and it was so beautiful! It was actually quite chilly out that day, so a round of applause to our models for looking gorgeous while freezing their buns off! And, to clarify, these were all real couples, not hired models.

The weather has been gorgeous here in the Boston area, so I've been trying to enjoy it (even though I'm not good at being outdoorsy). And Boston has a lot to celebrate since the Red Sox beat the Yankees last night! Talk about a nail biter!

You're A Beautiful Girl

In an effort to catch up on my editing and blogging, I wanted to post some different photos from my shoot with Haley a couple of weeks ago. She was such a fun model to work with! She has these amazingly blue eyes that just popped in our photos. We even had a make-up artist on hand to help us out. Julie helped me out on my boudoir sessions, too, and she is awesome! Plus, she made a great extra set of hands as we climbed up fire escapes and onto roofs, etc. So, here are some of my favorites of Haley!

She's Been Living In Her Uptown World

This weekend I had a great session with Haley! This is just one of the many many MANY photos I took that day. What makes me so happy about this photo is the off-camera lighting. Hooray! See, as a photographer, I really love using natural light as much as possible. However, I still want to know how to master my flash. Over the winter, I even took a couple of wicked fun classes on using your flash off-camera. Hopefully, this experiment of mine will make James and Doug proud! I also had a newborn shoot and an engagement shoot this weekend, so I have lots of editing to do! Happy Patriot's Day and Marathon Monday!

Rita Hayworth Gave Good Face

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working with Iryna. Not only does she love photography, but she's also a great model. I absolutely love the close-up shots I got. I felt like I was shooting a Cover Girl ad or something. Totally flawless. There's something about the intimacy of a close-up that tugs at me - I want to see into a person's eyes. These top two shots are definitely two of my favorites from the whole day.





I thought I would post this one, too. It's not a close-up, but I love the emotion in it. Iryna gave us so much to work with - lots of outfits, expressions, poses. We really had a lot of fun.

And Then We'll Take It Higher

Last weekend, the same day as the Oscars, I attended Part 2 of the Get it Off! Workshop. We worked with three models and practiced different lighting set-ups, at times trying to create specific looks and other times, just experimenting and having fun. I spent the day learning a ton and definitely getting more comfortable with using my flash off-camera, but also hanging out with some really cool people (that applies to the models, the photographers, and our fearless workshop leaders, James Federico and Doug Levy). You Must Have Seen Her

I took this photo at the Get It Off! Workshop yesterday. We worked with three really cool models and just played around with different lighting tricks. Since I use mostly natural light, these workshops have been great. They've got me experimenting with all different sorts of equipment, which is fun. This is just one of the many photos I took yesterday, but something about it grabs me, so I thought I'd throw it up there.

We'll Shine Together

If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll have noticed that Krista is one of my "muses." I have so much fun photographing her! The whole process is a blast for us. We thoroughly enjoy each other's company, of course. It had been a while since we had worked in a studio setting. Our last shoots had all been more "environmental," so this was a change. Thanks to Pizzuti Studios for hosting us! They have an amazing set-up that I was happy to take advantage of!











In the next couple of days, I hope to post a slideshow of Anna & Jayson's wedding. I also have some fun, quirky maternity photos to edit and a cool shoot tomorrow! I thought this was the off-season, but there's been nothing off- about it!

She's Got Legs

This is a sneak peek from a shoot I did with Krista last week. Every time we work together, I am amazed at what a good model she makes. You know how people never know what to do with their hands? Krista ALWAYS knows what to do with her hands. In fact, she can put them up near her face and make it look good and model-y! That's a talent. And, of course, she's got her other talent - she's a fabulous singer and songwriter and it is my goal to get her heard. So, if you haven't heard her already, you should click on the link above and go visit her page! I'm going to work on the rest of her photos this morning, so maybe there will be more later!

Even Bad Wolves Can Be Good

Okay, this line comes from the song "Li'l Red Riding Hood" by Sam the Sham. It was on a compilation CD of oldies I bought when I was in high school. I liked it for this post because my model finds herself awfully alone in the woods. I had this idea of doing a project involving body paint and I was lucky enough to find a willing model to use for my photographic prototype. I love the way this image looks. Some of our other attempts weren't as successful - I'll need to experiment with different paints. Anyway, I wanted to post one of them before I forgot.

I'd like to tell you this is my body, but it's not. This body obviously does not indulge in nearly as much ice cream as I do!

Close the Window, Calm the Light

Let me explain my quote for this post. First of all, it's from the Boz Scaggs song "We're All Alone." When I was young, I was one of those on-the-fringe kids who was totally listening to Elton John and Jimmy Buffett when all the other kids were listening to New Kids on the Block and Winger. I did have one partner in crime, though. Maile. For some reason, we both "knew" the lyrics to this song. Maile's version went a little something like this: "Close the window, Carmeline..." We had a feeling those weren't the real words, but they worked for us. I'll make a little confession to you (the one of you who reads this) - I didn't know the real words until I looked them up for this post. While I knew Boz Scaggs wasn't talking to Carmeline, I did think he was saying, "Close the window, come alive." That made sense and it fit in the song. Imagine my surprise when after 17 years, I found out the real words. Oh well. At least my version made sense. At least that song doesn't get a lot of radio play, so it's not like I'm sitting in my car singing the wrong words really loudly with the windows down. To her credit, Maile's musical tastes were much more advanced than mine. Somehow, even without older siblings, she managed to discover all sorts of cool groups and then introduce them to me. Here are some of my favorites: R.E.M., Indigo Girls, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Pixies, and They Might Be Giants. But just so you don't go thinking Maile was super-cool, I will remind you all (or reveal to you all) that we DID go see Bel Biv DeVoe in concert.

When you can find cool alleys in your Boston suburb, you're in pretty good shape!


I love that it's spring out again! There's so much potential everywhere. I've got a bunch of shoots to blog and some coming up in this next week and I'm so happy to be busy. I love everything about photography - I love meeting new people, taking pictures, and I even love the editing. I am so lucky to be able to do what I do. My wedding season hasn't begun officially yet, but it's right around the corner and it's going to be amazing. All of my brides and grooms are wicked fun and we're going to have a blast. Lots of weddings also mean lots of engagement shoots. Life is good.

She's Like the Wind

Hopefully Maile doesn't mind me using that song for her post title! Once again, she proved herself to be an awesome model for me. Our shoots are always so much fun. She totally lets me experiment with our shots and, instead of getting impatient, she laughs with me when the reflector blows away in the wind.





I'm sure I'll be posting more from this shoot soon, but these are a few of my favorites. I've also got a newborn shoot in my back pocket, as well as a belly dancer. I know I've been remiss about posting in a timely manner these days, but I haven't forgotten my faithful blog readers! More soon, I promise.

I'm Just One of the Out-of-Focus Guys

Not a song line, but a quote from "Almost Famous" which happens to be one of my favorite movies, and as an added bonus, extremely quotable. While I had Moon in my clutches for a while, I thought it would be fun to experiment with photos of two people. We had a lot of fun, which is important, and the results were worth it.
